We are Epic Expectations
About Epic Expectations
At Epic Expectations, we’re a collective of creators who thrive on storytelling, art, and nerd culture. From comics and illustrations to video content, reviews, and rants, our work is fueled by a love for creativity and connection. We collaborate directly with Nerds in the Dark, a community built around gaming, comics, movies, anime, and everything in between. Together, we’re building an inclusive online space where nerds can laugh, learn, and share their passions.
Meet the Team
Mikie Acevedo – Writer, Illustrator, and Content Creator
Based in San Diego, Mikie Acevedo wears many hats—writer, illustrator, marketer, graphic designer, video editor, and professional internet ranter. Since 2006, Mikie has been creating content across multiple platforms, blending sharp commentary with creative storytelling.
Mikie’s artwork is featured in Stupid Cupid Tricks by Matthew Kiczula, published under Epic Expectations, and his marketing expertise has shaped everything from commercials to websites. As a founding member of Nerds in the Dark, Mikie helps lead conversations around movies, games, books, and media, while championing inclusivity in nerd culture.
Mikie is currently working on his debut novel, the Helios Accord, part of the Technopath Saga.
Matt Kick – Cartoonist, Writer, and Creator of Mattist Comics
Matt Kick brings humor, honesty, and heart to the team through his work at Mattist Comics. Best known for his weekly comic strip Kay&I, Matt captures everyday moments with a mix of wit and relatability. Matt’s collaboration with Mikie Acevedo on Stupid Cupid Tricks showcases his ability to turn personal misadventures into creative projects. Beyond comics, Matt produces YouTube videos, podcasts, and self-made skits, all designed to spark laughs and preserve memories.
Our Mission
At Epic Expectations, our mission is to create content that entertains, includes, and inspires. We believe nerd culture is for everyone—whether you’re a lifelong gamer, a casual comic fan, or just someone who loves geeking out over a new movie release. Through comics, reviews, podcasts, and original art, we’re here to share stories that bring people together.
We’re not just publishing our own projects—we’re building an online community of nerds who support each other, celebrate diversity, and enjoy the creativity that fuels geek culture.
